I first discovered cozy mysteries in the New Release section of my local public library. I was just looking for my next read and the punny title and cute cover drew me in.

My first cozy mystery series is Magical Cats by Sofie Kelly. This series is still amongst my favorites of all time. It has some of my favorite themes cats and library. When I mention this series to others they often ask me if this is a kid or adult series.

I love the public library. There is something magical and enchanting about finding the right book to suit my mood. Reading a book is like embarking on an adventure to me.
How did you discover cozy mysteries? What was the first cozy mystery series you read? Do you love the library as much as I do? Please leave a comment.

That’s an awesome way to find a cozy! I think I might’ve gotten into cozies the same way. I found one of Laurien Berenson’s Melanie Travis books, and that sweet basset hound on the cover just said “take me, take me!” lol, so I did. And the rest is history. I got a Lucy Stone that day too. Pretty soon, I was reading cozies exclusively, aside from an occasional Nancy Drew (which I guess technically it’s a cozy, one of the original cozies.) I remember when the Hannah Swenson Murder, She Baked series started on Hallmark Mysteries, I just had to start reading those as well.
I do love the library and poking around the new section, yep and smelling that book smell, nothin’ like it!

Hi Tari! The new release section of my library and most libraries is front and center so it’s an easy way to find a book. Those cozy mystery covers get me every time! Especially dogs and cats since they have a special place in my heart! I love Nancy Drew books and still occasionally pick them up. I haven’t read Melanie Travis, Lucy Stone or Hannah Swenson books yet. Do you recommend them? Oh yes, love the smell of books and the feel of a new book. Thank you for sharing!

I can’t say those three are among my absolute faves but they’re still fun. Let’s just say I’d have trouble bingeing them. I really love J.C. Eaton’s books. I’m reading an ARC of one right now. If you’re not familiar with the author, it’s a husband/wife team from Sun City West AZ who basically write funny cozy mysteries using firsthand knowledge of senior life out there, lol. And when the chiweenie in the book gets involved, it’s extra hilarious! (They used to have a chiweenie themselves, so more firsthand knowledge of behavior I assume lol)

I heard great things about J.C. Eaton’s Sophie Kimball and A Charcuterie Shop series. These are on my TBR to read at some point soon.

Hi. I think it was Death by Darjeeling by Laura Childs. I worked at a tea shop at the time and whilst at the bookstore one day, the title caught my eye, so I bought it.
I do enjoy looking through out local library. I live in a big enough city that we have a library on each side of town. My favorite is on the west side. Large windows to let the sunshine in, sweeping views. It’s a nice library.

Hi! I love that Death by Darjeeling stood out to you in a bookshop since you worked at a tea shop at the time. I do find that the more I have in common or can relate to the cozy mystery and the main character the better experience I have reading it. I’m so glad you have a wonderful library! My library also has a lot of windows to let in the sunshine and scenes outside. One time I looked out the window of my library while taking a break from reading and saw a groundhog staring at me. That was a wonderful moment! Thank you for sharing!

I love libraries so much that I work at one. We all get excited when the boxes of new books get delivered. It’s like a candy store. I’ve had squirrels watch me through the windows but never a groundhog. Not yet 🙂
Spotting a cozy at the library was also how I became hooked. I loved the tea cozies by Laura Childs and The Cat in the Stacks series by Miranda James.

Very nice! Working at a library is a dream job to me. I haven’t read the tea cozies by Laura Childs yet but I love The Cat in the Stacks series. The cover for the 2024 book Requiem for a Mouse is fantastic.
