Cozy Mystery This or That Tag Created By Believeinyourshelf

1. Amateur sleuth or pro? Amateur sleuth

2. Small town or big city? Small Town. Although, I love the Black Cat Bookshop series by Ali Brandon and that takes place in New York but has a tight knit community like a small town. I love it.

3. Pet or no pet? Pet, I read a lot of cozies with dogs, cats, and birds.

4. Series or stand-alone? Series for sure. When I love a cozy, I want to spend more time in the settings and with the character.

5. Bakery or bookshop? Bookshops (Libraries also). I love eating baked goods more than reading about them.

6. Light & funny or darker cozy? Light and funny. I don’t like dark themes.

7. Seasonal theme or everyday setting? I read some seasonal themed cozies but I prefer everyday settings.

8. Single sleuth or sleuthing duo? Single sleuth but sleuthing duo or team when done right.

9. Romance subplot or strictly mystery? Romance subplot but keep it light and no love triangles.

10. Set in your own country or set abroad? Set in my own country. Cozies set outside my country don’t appeal to me at all. That may be because I have never travelled abroad.

Great American Family Movie Review

Ainsley McGregor Mysteries – Great American Family Mystery Movie Reviews

Ainsley McGregor is a criminology professor and small business owner that recently came home to Sweet River, Texas from Chicago after a mysterious incident occurred. Her small business, Bless Your Art, is an artisan shop that she sells products the townsfolk make. She has a best friend Shannon that owns a coffee shop and there are many other townsfolk that we meet along the way. There is also a book club that meets in Ainsley’s shop that started as the Widows Circle that turned into a mystery book club and is now a crime solving group. Ainsley also has a loveable dog George, a younger brother Ryan, the police chief, and her brothers best friend Jake, the Fire Chief, that are involved with the crime solving.

Ainsley McGregor: The Case for A Winemaker

In this mystery movie, Ainsley finds a dead body in the winery and the winemaker is the suspect and her best friends husband. The victim is a man from out of town that wants to but the winery. Ainsley uses her criminology professor background to help her brother solve the case along with a book club, and some of her students. Her brother goes back and forth with whether he dislikes or likes that his sister is involved. He does respect her thoughts since she’s a criminology professor. We do get to see her in class and meet some of her students that want to help her. In true small town fashion the students are related to members of the sleuthing group…I mean book club. You also get to see how her shop is run and some details in that regard. This was an enjoyable mystery and I’m a big fan of Candace Cameron Bure’s other mystery series Aurora Teagarden. Although this series is different they did bring some of the popular elements of Aurora Teagarden to this series. If you liked the Aurora Teagarden series, give this one a try. There are also some side actors that appear in both series that you’ll recognize.

Ainsley McGregor: The Case for A Yarn Maker

In this mystery movie, Ainsley McGregor is more established in town and with her business and has The Yarn Queen coming to her shop for an event. Only The Yarn Queen is found dead. It’s up to Ainsley and friends to figure out this mystery before it’s too late. In this movie I felt the Aurora Teagarden comparison with how Ainsley goes about solving the crime with the sleuthing group and a murder board. This is an enjoyable mystery and I liked it more than the first movie. I did figure out the killer but not the whole reveal which was surprising to me. I will definitely be watching more movies in this series if they continue to make them.

2025 New Releases

New Releases Cozy Mystery I Read in May 2025

This is the first annual Blueberry Festival that Luke was hosting on his blueberry farm. Dani has a booth at the festival for the Little Dog Diner. Then a murder happens at the festival. The mystery is great, full of twists and turns. I never would have been able to guess the reveal. It was a very surprising ending. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series to see the full impact of the reveal on the characters.

There is a young adult author conference going on at the Lighthouse Library in this one. One of the authors that will be speaking at the conference is murdered. The mystery is great and kept me guessing. The reveal was something else. Nothing I could have predicted and nothing I’ve ever read before.

This mystery involves Willa’s estranged ex financee and ex best friend. I usually don’t like mysteries that involve an ex but the author did a great job with this mystery. We also learn more about Willa’s past. Team Cheese is fantastic as always. The ending will leave you in shock.

This one takes place a the Crosbyville Annual Fall Festival. A festival where Bailey the Bloodhound is representing two organization he works for and Aunt Agatha has a booth for her diner. This one involves many people of interest ending up staying at a mansion together. It’s a closed room mysteries of sorts although people can leave. The mysteries is amazing and take my advice to pay close attention to everything if you want to be able to solve it. The reveal is exciting. The author could have cut out some of the relationship drama but this didn’t diminish the mystery for me.

Cozy Mystery Dream Team

What amateur sleuth, best friend, cozy companion (animal), and love interest would make your cozy mystery dream team and why?

Amateur Sleuth – I had to cheat on this and say Charlotte’s Angels and Sarah Grayson from the Second Chance Cat mystery series by Sofie Ryan – I know when they are on the case it will be solved.

Best Friend – Megan from The Noodle Shop series by Vivien Chien – She is always there for Lana even if she wants to do something crazy like meet with a murderer. Plus, she got Lana a book on how to investigate crimes. That was the best! I’m like why don’t other amateur sleuths get a book on how to investigate crimes.

Cozy Companion – Hercules and Owen from Magical Cats mystery series by Sofie Kelly – their abilities to disappear and walk through walls and doors could come in handy to apprehend the murderer. Plus, they are super loyal to Kathleen and want to help her solve the crimes. We will have to have a lot of sardine crackers on hand to keep them happy though.

Love Interest – Mike “Sully” Sullivan from Library Lovers mystery series by Jenn McKinlay – He’s my fictional boyfriend LOL. He was in the military and always ends up getting Lyndsey out of trouble so he is a good love interest to have.

Author Spotlight

Author Spotlight – Sarah Fox

Sarah Fox is one of my favorite cozy mystery authors. I’ve read four of her five series in their entirety and loved them even though they are all very different. Her writing style and vivid descriptions really work for me. I highly recommend trying her books out.

True Confections Mysteries

I love this series. It has a very unique setting and the author is great at vividly describing it. I love all of the side characters and the bits of romance in the stories. The mysteries keep you on the edge of your seat and have action packed reveals.

Pancake House Mysteries

I love this series. I was intrigued by the first page of the first book. The mysteries keep you wanting to turn the pages. The side characters are delightful and really add to the stories. Definitely have pancakes and syrup on hand while reading this series.

Literary Pub Mysteries

This is a really enjoyable series although I wouldn’t call it either literary or pub themed. The mysteries and characters definitely kept me invested in the series and I wanted to continue to see what would happen next.

Magical Menageries Mysteries

This is a very unique cozy mystery series as it takes place on an animal sanctuary. I was a little apprehensive about picking up this cozy mystery as I don’t like paranormal cozy mysteries. I was pleasantly surprised by the magical dogs in the series. If you like Sofie Kelly’s Magical Cats series, give this one a try. They are similar but totally different at the same time but just as enjoyable.

Music Lovers Mysteries

I haven’t read this series yet. Violinist turned amateur sleuth Midori Bishop investigating fellow musicians death. She’s starting a new relationship with the maestro and he’s is the number one suspect. Midori needs to get involved to clear his name.

Hallmark Mystery Movie Review

Jane Mysteries: Murder at Moseby – Hallmark + Mystery Movie Review

This mystery series features Jane DiSilva a nightclub singer in Paris turned PI due to an inheritance from her Uncle Harold – the Foundation for Righting Wrongs. Jane was reluctant to take the inheritance since she doesn’t know how to investigate or solve a case but with practice she finds that she better at it than she thought and she can provide closure and help others get justice. Jane works with a detective John Cameron on the cases. They are a great team and both believe in the cause. Jane’s Aunt Sadie gets involved in the cases in very interesting ways. This movie series is based on a Book Series. This is one of the four Jane Mystery movies on Hallmark+.

In this mystery, an old friend at their old college Moseby asks Jane and the foundation for help. He finds an old photo in his camera of what he thinks may be someone loading a dead body in a car. There are some flashback to 15 years before in this mystery which makes it a little different from other mysteries in the series. Jane goes undercover as a substitute theater professor to get her closer to the action to solve the crime. There is a really fun side character that’s in this mystery. I really love the mystery and conclusion to this one. I highly recommend the movies especially this one!!
