Author Spotlight

Author Spotlight – Valerie Burns/VM Burns/Kallie E Benjamin

Bailey the Bloodhound Mysteries by Kallie E Benjamin

Pris is the main sleuth. She is a former grade school teacher turned children’s book author featuring her bloodhound Bailey. This series has great mysteries that you’ll be trying to solve and children’s literacy representation which makes it unique. I highly recommend this series!

Baker Street Mysteries by Valerie Burns

This series has a younger sleuth that is a social media influencer. I didn’t think I would like it but the writing style hooked me from the start. This series has an overarching mystery in addition to the murder mystery in each book. The characters add a lot to this series and Baby the huge Mastiff is wonderful. I highly recommend you try this series even if you think it’s not for you!

Dog Club Mysteries by VM Burns

I haven’t read this series yet. Lilly gained a pooch Aggie and lost a husband to cheating. Her husband has been murdered and Lilly is the number one suspect. With help from Dixie, her defense attorney daughter, and a blue-eyed man in blue with a K-9 partner, Lilly is determined to clear her name.

Mystery Bookshop Mysteries by VM Burns

I haven’t read this series yet. Samantha Washington owns a mystery bookshop and is also writing a cozy mystery set in England. In this series, you get the present day mysteries and snippets of the cozy mystery set in England that she is writing.

Hallmark Mystery Movie Review

A Pie To Die For: A Hannah Swensen Mystery Hallmark+ Mystery Movie Review

In this movie Hannah’s mother Delores is in the hot seat since a rival of hers is murdered. Hannah, Andrea, and Delores work together to get to the bottom of this murder. There are some interesting relationship situations in this one. Also, we get to find out more about Lisa’s family as she is hosting a family reunion in town. I really enjoyed this movie and did figure out the killer in the end.

Tag

Cozy Mystery This or That Tag Created By Believeinyourshelf

1. Amateur sleuth or pro? Amateur sleuth

2. Small town or big city? Small Town. Although, I love the Black Cat Bookshop series by Ali Brandon and that takes place in New York but has a tight knit community like a small town. I love it.

3. Pet or no pet? Pet, I read a lot of cozies with dogs, cats, and birds.

4. Series or stand-alone? Series for sure. When I love a cozy, I want to spend more time in the settings and with the character.

5. Bakery or bookshop? Bookshops (Libraries also). I love eating baked goods more than reading about them.

6. Light & funny or darker cozy? Light and funny. I don’t like dark themes.

7. Seasonal theme or everyday setting? I read some seasonal themed cozies but I prefer everyday settings.

8. Single sleuth or sleuthing duo? Single sleuth but sleuthing duo or team when done right.

9. Romance subplot or strictly mystery? Romance subplot but keep it light and no love triangles.

10. Set in your own country or set abroad? Set in my own country. Cozies set outside my country don’t appeal to me at all. That may be because I have never travelled abroad.

Great American Family Movie Review

Ainsley McGregor Mysteries – Great American Family Mystery Movie Reviews

Ainsley McGregor is a criminology professor and small business owner that recently came home to Sweet River, Texas from Chicago after a mysterious incident occurred. Her small business, Bless Your Art, is an artisan shop that she sells products the townsfolk make. She has a best friend Shannon that owns a coffee shop and there are many other townsfolk that we meet along the way. There is also a book club that meets in Ainsley’s shop that started as the Widows Circle that turned into a mystery book club and is now a crime solving group. Ainsley also has a loveable dog George, a younger brother Ryan, the police chief, and her brothers best friend Jake, the Fire Chief, that are involved with the crime solving.

Ainsley McGregor: The Case for A Winemaker

In this mystery movie, Ainsley finds a dead body in the winery and the winemaker is the suspect and her best friends husband. The victim is a man from out of town that wants to but the winery. Ainsley uses her criminology professor background to help her brother solve the case along with a book club, and some of her students. Her brother goes back and forth with whether he dislikes or likes that his sister is involved. He does respect her thoughts since she’s a criminology professor. We do get to see her in class and meet some of her students that want to help her. In true small town fashion the students are related to members of the sleuthing group…I mean book club. You also get to see how her shop is run and some details in that regard. This was an enjoyable mystery and I’m a big fan of Candace Cameron Bure’s other mystery series Aurora Teagarden. Although this series is different they did bring some of the popular elements of Aurora Teagarden to this series. If you liked the Aurora Teagarden series, give this one a try. There are also some side actors that appear in both series that you’ll recognize.

Ainsley McGregor: The Case for A Yarn Maker

In this mystery movie, Ainsley McGregor is more established in town and with her business and has The Yarn Queen coming to her shop for an event. Only The Yarn Queen is found dead. It’s up to Ainsley and friends to figure out this mystery before it’s too late. In this movie I felt the Aurora Teagarden comparison with how Ainsley goes about solving the crime with the sleuthing group and a murder board. This is an enjoyable mystery and I liked it more than the first movie. I did figure out the killer but not the whole reveal which was surprising to me. I will definitely be watching more movies in this series if they continue to make them.

2025 New Releases

New Releases Cozy Mystery I Read in May 2025

This is the first annual Blueberry Festival that Luke was hosting on his blueberry farm. Dani has a booth at the festival for the Little Dog Diner. Then a murder happens at the festival. The mystery is great, full of twists and turns. I never would have been able to guess the reveal. It was a very surprising ending. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series to see the full impact of the reveal on the characters.

There is a young adult author conference going on at the Lighthouse Library in this one. One of the authors that will be speaking at the conference is murdered. The mystery is great and kept me guessing. The reveal was something else. Nothing I could have predicted and nothing I’ve ever read before.

This mystery involves Willa’s estranged ex financee and ex best friend. I usually don’t like mysteries that involve an ex but the author did a great job with this mystery. We also learn more about Willa’s past. Team Cheese is fantastic as always. The ending will leave you in shock.

This one takes place a the Crosbyville Annual Fall Festival. A festival where Bailey the Bloodhound is representing two organization he works for and Aunt Agatha has a booth for her diner. This one involves many people of interest ending up staying at a mansion together. It’s a closed room mysteries of sorts although people can leave. The mysteries is amazing and take my advice to pay close attention to everything if you want to be able to solve it. The reveal is exciting. The author could have cut out some of the relationship drama but this didn’t diminish the mystery for me.
